Muses' Corner

The 9 greek muses are figures that represent the arts, creativity and inspiration. every artist, however skilled, is subject to the whims of creative inspiration. Much like us, artists in the ancient world took note of the fleeting nature of the inspiration they depend on. The muses represent the reality of being a creative, and just like our predecessors, we can seek them out and grasp inspiration even when we think its lost. this website is for storing works, inspiration, music suggestions, blogs, resources and other such things for artists of all stripes. Please remember that I am an arist, not a coder. this website is still highly experimental as i figure out how to use this new medium to my advantage. Thank you for visiting, and may the Muses bless you!

here, you can find a bit of information about the 9 greek muses. When discussinfg them, its important to remember that they arent characters from a story. they were parts of a religion, and like all mythology, there isnt one singular "correct" retelling of events. many different ancient people hadmany different beliefs about the muses, their role, their parentage, etc. this is true for all mythological figures, but it feels worth mentioning when discussing the muses, because they dont have many appearances in the mythos for us yo base ourselves on. People wrote about them in similar ways to how we discuss inspiration and art block. However, i will do my best to recount some general aspects.

  • Calliope : The muse of Epic Poetry and eloquence. She is the oldest of the 9 muses, and the ancient poet Hesiod considered her the most important. sometimes believed to be Homers muse for the illiad and oddysey, calliope was often invoked in the start of epic poems. one example of this is in the ancient poet Vergils Aeneid "Aid, o calliope, the martial song!" Widely considered the mother of Orpheus."
  • Clio : the muse of history. She was considered the mother of Hyacinthus, with the father changing from myth to myth. sometimes referred to as "the Proclaimer",she is often represented with an open parchment scroll, a book, or a set of tablets. Her role as the muse of history left a legacy into the modern day, for example, the clio awards.
